A deep dive into how Art Trackers works — from the ID system to the NFC tag to the permanent record.
Every artwork registered on Art Trackers receives a unique, permanent identifier in the format AT-00000001. This ID never changes — not when the artwork moves, not when ownership transfers, not when the institution upgrades its systems.
Artists also receive a permanent Artist ID in the format AR-00000001 — linked to every work they register, forever.
These IDs are the backbone of the entire system. Everything else — location, ownership, provenance, NFC — connects back to them.
Every artwork has two identifiers. One is public-facing. One is hidden.
Displayed on NFC tags, QR codes, and public-facing records. Anyone with authorization can scan and see the full record. This is the ID that travels with the artwork.
A randomized secondary ID stored only in the Airtable backend. Visible only to authorized administrators. Your anti-fraud and high-stakes verification layer.
We use NTAG213 NFC chips — the same technology in your transit card and contactless payment. Durable. Weatherproof. Readable by any modern iPhone or Android. No app required.
Tap the chip → your phone opens the full AT record instantly. Location, ownership, artist, provenance — everything. In the field, on-site, or in an audit.
