About the artwork
Artist supplied description.
At a young age, Jacques Callot allegedly ran away from the provincial court of Nancy with a band of gypsies bound for Rome. From that moment on, exotic and dramatic figures held a fascination for him; his prints of fortune-tellers and performers established a tradition that reached its peak in the 18th century.
