About the artwork
Artist supplied description.

Jacques Bellange was the court painter for the dukes of Lorraine from 1602 until his death in 1616. Although very few paintings and only about 100 drawings can be attributed to his hand, the 47 creative etchings Bellange produced beginning in 1610/11 are his legacy. This, his largest etching on one plate, presents a swirling mass of over 30 figures, including a young page with a parrot on his arm and a king holding an elegant chalice.
