About the artwork
Artist supplied description.
Among the last works created by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who died on November 9,1778, these large prints belong to a series of 20 views of Paestum called Different Views of Some of the Remains of Three Great Edifices That Still Exist at the Center of the Ancient City of Pesto, or Posidonia [Paestum], Which Is Situated in Lucania The figures that animate the entire series and the final plate shown here were probably completed by his son, Francesco.
