    Benjamin West (died 1820); by descent to his sons, Raphael Lamar West and Benjamin West, Jr; sold Robins, London, 22–25 May 1829, no. 110, to W. J. Ward for £68; W. J. Ward to at least 1833 [lent by him to the British Institution that year]. Sold at a house sale in Dubuque, Iowa, 1971, to Vincent F. Carney, Rochelle, Ill. [letter of Vincent F. Carney to Esther Sparks, 7 July 1973, in curatorial file]; given to the Art Institute, 1972.
