    Given by the artist to Edouard Manet [inscription]; by descent to Mme. Manet (née Suzanne Leenhoff) [according to Chicago 1978]; by descent to Leon Leenhoff (died 1927) [according to Chicago 1978]; given to Aristide Albert (1821-1903) [inscription]. Princess de Polignac (probably née Winnaretta Singer) (1865-1943), Paris [according to dealer invoice]. Sold by Martin Fabiani, Paris, to Marianne Feilchenfeldt, Zurich, 1967 [according to letter from Marianne Feilchenfeldt's son, Walter, April 2002 in curatorial file]; sold by Mrs. Walter Feilchenfeldt to the Art Institute, 1967.
