    Inscribed recto, upper center, in pen and brown ink: "135"; lower left, in graphite: "526"; inscribed verso, upper right on mount, in pen and brown ink: "No. 54.112"; lower right on mount in graphite: "... 17 settembre..."

    Provenance

    Unidentified early-mid nineteenth-century Italian collector [script (Lugt 3005f), verso, lower right on mount, in graphite]. Sold, Puttick & Simpson, London, May 15, 1914, part of lot 85, to William F. E. Gurley (1854–1943), Chicago [stamp (Lugt 5308), recto, lower right, in black]; given to the Art Institute of Chicago for the Leonora Hall Gurley Memorial Collection, 1922 [stamp (Lugt 1230b), verso, lower left, in black].
