    Estate of the artist; Eugène and Jules David, paraphes (Lugt 839 and 1437) recto, lower left, in pen and brown ink; Atelier sale, Paris, April 17, 1826, lot 66, as Douze grands livres de croquis... (not sold); Madame David, until at least June 27,1826 [inv. after her death as Douze grands livres contenant des dessins & des calques Etudes de M. David en Italie]; David sale, Bonnefons, Paris, March 11, 1835, part of lot 16, as Douze grands livres de croquis; Paris, April 4–5, 1836, anonymous sale, part of lot 164, as Deux grands volumes in-folio...; M. Chassagnoles (David’s son Jules’ uncle), by 1860-at least 1880 [Cantaloube 1860; David 1880]. Jules David, Paris, 1882 [all preceding provenance according to Rosenberg and Prat 2002]. Marquise de Ludre (died 1956; David’s great grand-granddaughter), by 1930 [Cantinelli 1930]; by descent to her heirs, Marquise de Lau d’Allemans and Madame de Chaumont-Quitry, from 1956; sold by the heirs of the Marquis de Ludre to Germain Seligman (1893–1978), New York [Seligman fact sheet and Rosenberg and Prat 2002], his stamp (not in Lugt), recto, lower left, in black; sold, Christie’s, London, July 7, 1959, lot 45.
