    Inscriptions

    Inscribed, lower right, brown ink: probably “Biano;” inscribed, lower left, brown ink: Ponino; inscribed, lower center of mount, brown ink: probably by Don Gaspar Mendez de Haro y Guzman, “Gio. Benedo. Castillione.”

    Provenance

    Don Gaspar de Haro y Guzmán, 7th Marquis of Carpio (1629–1687) [according to Galerie Tarantino 2011 exh. cat.]. Possibly Arnold Blome (1894–1972), Bremen [stamp (L.4042 or 4043), recto lower right, in brown and verso lower center, in brown]. Sold by Galerie Tarantino, Paris, through François Borne to the Gray Collection Trust, Chicago, May 2011; given to the Art Institute of Chicago, 2019.
