    Inscribed recto, on mount, upper right, in graphite: "Variant view of / [illegible] 76"; recto, on mount, along bottom, in black ink and graphite: "A Council of War / Lord Raglan, Omar Pacha & Pelissier, taken the eve before the taking of the Renaro Mankelen ['Renaro' crossed out with graphite, 'Mankelen' written above it] / Crimea / 61 / 58"; inscribed verso, lower left, in black ink: "A. Beaucheux[?] / 1771-1846 / [writing cut off] in Chief / [writing cut off] Portugal / [writing cut off] author etc."
