    Sold by the dealer Détrimont to Durand-Ruel, Paris, November 5, 1891 [according to a letter of Caroline Durand-Ruel Godfroy, May 3, 2000, in curatorial file]; sold to their New York gallery, November 17, 1899 [according to letter cited above]; sold by Durand-Ruel, New York, to Mrs. J.J. Borland (died 1933), Chicago, February 16, 1900 [according to letter cited above]; by descent to her son Chauncey Borland, who gave it to the Art Institute of Chicago in 1963.
